SUPERGRASS: OVER AND OUT

April 22, 2010

an email from news@supergrass.com:

SUPERGRASS – OVER AND OUT

Dear Supergrass Fan,

After many years of spreading global bonhomie, SUPERGRASS announce that they are to split.
The group will play 4 farewell shows in June, starting at Glasgow Barrowland on June 8 and ending with their final ever show in Paris on June 11.
Supergrass’ first single, the era-defining “Caught By The Fuzz”, was released in 1994; since then they have gone on to carve their totally idiosyncratic and not insubstantial niche in rock music over six studio albums and some of the punchiest singles of our time.
The group said: “Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on and of course we all wish each other well in the future”

Supergrass will play the following dates:
Tuesday 8th June – Barrowland, Glasgow
Wednesday 9th June – Academy, Manchester
Thursday 10th June – Brixton Academy, London
Friday 11th June – La Cigalle, Paris

[UPCOMING ALBUM] Department Of Eagles

April 14, 2010

Archives 2003-2006
Department of Eagles
(July 20 on American Dust/Bella Union)

From American Dust Records:

Department of Eagles is the acclaimed duo featuring Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and his long-time songwriting partner and musical ally Fred Nicolaus. The band released their masterpiece, In Ear Park, in 2008, but many people are unaware that the two had recorded and scrapped an entire album’s worth of sessions prior to the recording of that album [and after releasing their 2003 debut, The Cold Nose]. The sessions have gained a feverish notoriety among the few that have heard them, and we’re proud to be giving these recordings their official release.”

Beatles’ “Wait” by Ben Kweller ft. Albert Hammond Jr.

April 14, 2010

With some artists it’s possible to trace their style back to a single Beatles song (that’s not meant as an insult).  I hadn’t made the connection for BK yet, but this song is definitely it.

[NEW RELEASE] MGMT: Congratulations

April 13, 2010

MGMT’s Congratulations is available today via Columbia Records.  The band made the album available for streaming about a month ago after it leaked, so there’s not much to say about the sound.
